Cooking with Cancer is an educational
and fun program that teaches children and parents how to prepare nutritious
and appealing meals. The recipes are designed to provide children
with the nourishment they so need during recovery, as well as to be
enjoyable to prepare and delicious to eat.
This year's Cooking with Cancer Community Program took place at Azul
Restaurant in West Hartford.
Families were invited to stay throughout the class and enjoy brunch
afterward. Recipes included such enjoyable foods as smoothies, shakes
and malts, desserts, snacks and appetizers, entrees, and finger foods.
The foods are nutritiously valuable and easily digested. Also, because
of the harsh treatments and medications that can cause children's
tastes to change during and after treatment, the recipes are developed
to provide a range of appetizing choices that do not force them into
a life of specialized diets and difficult food cravings.
